**Job Summary**

Manage quality and lab functions for the manufacturing of pet food consumer products. The Quality Manager is an essential position to assure food safety and quality standards for all product manufactured at the facility. Food safety training, attention to detail, exceptional work ethic, willingness to adapt, and a positive attitude are essential to success in this role.

**Primary Duties & Responsibilities**

* Train, coach and evaluate the performance of direct reports

* Design, implement, maintain, and evaluate food safety and quality systems for bird and small animal (BSA) and fish food lines in a manufacturing environment

* Maintain all necessary processes and operating procedures to ensure full compliance with local, national, and global regulatory food production requirements. This will include FDA, USDA, and GFSI (SQF).

* Direct and oversee all government, 3rd party, and customer inspections and audits

* Review, investigate and analyze consumer complaints to determine root cause analyses and appropriate corrective actions

* Create efficient document management protocols using available databases. Create, report, and monitor plant food safety and quality KPIs

* Develop and maintain appropriate safety programs for laboratory operations

* Quality calibration/support for plant/lab measuring devices (i.e. scales, metal detectors, etc.).

* Take ownership of the quality system and continued improvements to the plan

* Resolve quality issues related to product components (raw materials, ingredients, and packaging)

* Develop department operating budget and monitor cost performance

* Establish and maintain a formalized cost reduction program that captures systems savings

* Build awareness, training, and education programs to drive cultural and behavioral changes

* Maintain and grow internal auditing programs to drive continuous improvement of Food Safety and Quality programs

* Ensure internal auditors are calibrated and have the competency to be effective in driving continuous improvement

* Collaborate with Operations, Engineering/Maintenance, R&D, and Sourcing teams on new and existing product development projects

* Always demonstrate and understand safe work practices to ensure a safe work environment

* Comply with all Company policies and procedures

* Complete other duties as assigned

**Education and Experience Profile**

* Bachelors Degree in a science related field

* 5 years of experience in Quality management of consumer products

* Minimum 3 years of experience in a food manufacturing environment including HACCP team experience. HACCP certification; SQF/BRC training, and Certification as Preventive Controls Qualified Individual.

* Minimum 3 years of people management experience

**Required Skills**

* People leadership and the ability to influence cross-functionally are essential

* Demonstrate strong problem solving and project management skills including root cause analysis, risk assessment, and corrective/preventive action

* SAP experience (preferred)

* Microsoft Office skills required (Excel, Word and PowerPoint)
